Ein „Lehn dich zurück“ auf Kopfnicker-Beats: Charmant und gelassen verbreitet die Dresdner Rapperin La Rey gute Vibes mit ihrer Musik. Hinter diesem Feelgood-BoomBap steckt jedoch mehr als ein Dauergrinsen in der Hängematte. La Rey erzählt persönliche Geschichten, lässt Ängste und Verletzlichkeiten zu und scheut sich nicht davor, die großen Themen aus Gesellschaft und Politik anzusprechen.
Die 29-jährige Musikerin kommt 1993 in Dresden zur Welt und wächst dort in einer Familie auf, die ihre Liebe zur Bühne früh prägt. Ihre Großmutter, selbst Laienschauspielerin am Theater, bringt La Rey und ihren Geschwistern verrückte Lieder bei. Zusammen führen sie zuhause Stücke auf und probieren sich kreativ aus. Im Interview erzählt La Rey nostalgisch von dieser Zeit und hofft, eines Tages einen Song mit ihrer Oma zu veröffentlichen. Von der Schauspielerei kommt La Rey zum Texten und Performen. Bevor sie überhaupt einen Song veröffentlicht hat, entstehen zunächst viele Gedichte, irgendwann erste Rap-Texte. Einen davon trägt sie 2017 bei einem Open Mic in Dresden vor, nachdem ihre Freund:innen sie dazu ermutigt haben. Dabei stößt sie auf begeistertes Feedback in der Crowd. So wagt sie auf HipHop-Veranstaltungen immer öfter den Schritt ans Mikrofon und wird langsam, aber sicher Teil der Dresdner Rapszene.
2019 veröffentlicht sie ihren ersten Track online, 2021 erscheint ihr Featuresong „Wir + Ich“ mit Rapper axellent. Im gleichen Jahr fasst sie einen Entschluss: Ab sofort möchte sich La Rey noch stärker der Musik widmen. Sie kündigt ihren Vollzeitjob im Umweltamt und tritt eine Teilzeitstelle in einer Boulderhalle an. An ihrem letzten Arbeitstag im Amt erhält sie einen Anruf, dass sie als Support-Act für Waving The Guns in Dresden auftreten solle. Besser hätte sie ihren Entschluss nicht feiern können, damit hat sie gleichzeitig ihren ersten richtigen Live-Gig in der Tasche, Freudentränen inklusive. Seitdem sitzt sie fast täglich an neuer Musik, erobert Bühnen und beweist sich dort als versierte Live-MC.
Musik auf Knopfdruck ist von ihr noch wenig im Internet zu finden. Das soll sich in den nächsten Monaten allerdings ändern. Neben Single-Releases strebt die Dresdnerin zum Ende dieses Jahres eine erste EP an. Darauf erwarten uns weiterhin gelassene Flows, jazziger BoomBap und persönliche Texte, aber auch musikalische Experimente. Neben Singer/Songwriter-Nummern plant La Rey Ausflüge in elektronische Sphären. Ein Debütalbum, Festivalbühnen und eine noch tiefere Vernetzung in die Szene wünscht sie sich für die nächsten Jahre. Sie wird ihren Ansprüchen mit Sicherheit gerecht werden. Jetzt heißt es aber erst einmal: Zurücklehnen, La Rey hören und genießen.
