Maxida Märak wird am 17. September 1988 als Ida Amanda in Schweden geboren. Sie gehört zum indigenen Volk der Samen, früher auch Lappen genannt. Das Volk lebt in Schweden, Norwegen, Finnland und Russland. Obwohl Schweden völkerrechtlich dazu verpflichtet ist, die Rechte dieser skandinavischen Urbevölkerung zu schützen, hat das Land die Konvention dafür bis heute nicht unterzeichnet. Kein Wunder also, dass sich Maxida Märak für die Rechte ihres Volkes einsetzt und ihr gesellschaftliches Engagement ebenso wichtig ist wie künstlerisches Schaffen.
Heute lebt Maxida in Stockholm. Sie spielt ausverkaufte Touren und hat eine Instagram-Fangemeinde von über 34.000 Followern. In ihren Songs erinnert sich Maxida Märak an ihre Jugend in Jokkmokk als Teil einer Kultur, die Wochen in den Bergen verbrachte – ohne Badezimmer und Strom oder 5G. Mit den Ungerechtigkeiten, die ihrem Volk bis heute widerfahren, setzt sich die Aktivistin musikalisch auseinander. Das erklärt die Wut und die Dunkelheit in einigen Tracks. Obwohl ihre Karriere relativ jung ist, kann sie einiges vorweisen. Internationale Aufmerksamkeit konnte sie 2015 erlangen als sie gemeinsam mit Mando Diao den Titelsong-Song „Love last forever“ für den Ski-Weltcup sang.
