Eingängige Melodien prägen die Musik der japanischen Künstlerin ASOBOiSM. In ihren Texten beschreibt sie alltäglichen Dinge, die ihr passieren. Ihre ersten Schritte in das Musikbusiness unternimmt die Künstlerin, als sie beim GAKU-Programm, einem Programm der Japanischen Regierung zur Förderung von kreativen Talenten, lernt, Lieder zu schreiben. Doch die 27-jährige Rapperin kommt nicht direkt zum HipHop. Ihre berufliche Karriere beginnt sie zunächst in einer Bank.
2017 tritt die Rapperin zum ersten Mal unter ihrem Künstlerinnennamen ASOBOiSM in Erscheinung. Gut drei Jahre später veröffentlicht sie ihr erstes Soloalbum „OOTD“. Neben ihrer Karriere als Solokünstlerin gründet ASOBOiSM im Jahre 2021 das HipHop-Kollektiv Zoomgals zusammen mit den Rapper:innen valknee, Tajima Haruko, Namichie, Marukido und AKKOGORILLA.
Für ASOBOiSM verändert die weltweite Pandemie den Blick auf das Leben. Die Arbeit in der Bank führt sie von zuhause aus durch. Schnell bemerkt die Rapperin, dass ihr etwas fehlt – die Verbindung und der Kontakt zu Freund:innen, aber auch die Musik. Ihre Persönlichkeit entwickelt sich in der Pandemie stark weiter. Sie realisiert, dass sie ein Talent hat und das ist Songs zu schreiben.
